Bee.Net's Postini e-Mail Spam and Virus Protection Service

As part of our commitment to provide our customers with the best Internet service available, Bee.Net (http://www.bee.net) has partnered with Postini ( http://www.postini.com) to provide you with the latest tools to prevent viruses and spam (unsolicited e-mail) from reaching your Outlook Express or other e-mail program in-box. You will be given a password protected online Message Center where you can review the filtered e-mail. We will provide the new filtering service free to all Internet access and website hosting customers who have e-mail boxes on our servers. The filtering service will also be made available as a reasonably priced option to companies and organizations that maintain their own e-mail servers.

Our customers have been very pleased with the effectiveness of the filtering service! Postini has developed and maintains the premier filtering service available to Internet service providers, processing 40 million messages each day in real time. The Postini system incorporates sophisticated spam filters and utilizes the highly regarded worldwide McAfee AVERT (Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team) virus protection system (http://www.mcafee.com) to stay current with virus definitions. The filters are updated throughout the day to ensure that you are protected as timely as possible from newly discovered spam sources and virus types. While no virus protection system is fool proof, the Bee.Net provided service, in combination with your own computer virus protection program, will provide you with optimal protection from Internet based threats to your computer. If you do not already use a computer virus protection program, we strongly encourage you to do so.

When the service is activated for your e-mail account, you will receive an activation notification from Postini. You will not need to make any changes to your e-mail program configuration, and you will continue to retrieve your non-filtered e-mail the same way that you do now.

The Postini services are private and secure. The spam and virus protection process is automated. Nobody has access to your e-mail except you. Nobody will read your e-mail. Your e-mail is not censored, YOU control the level of the filter settings. You may even choose to turn filtering off completely!

Here is a brief overview of the Postini service:

Your incoming e-mail passes through Postini's automated filters that detect suspected spam and viruses.
Filtered junk mail, viruses and other suspicious e-mail is directed to your personal, web-based, password-protected Message Center (it does not arrive at your computer's in-box). You will access your Message Center via your Netscape or Internet Explorer web browser using the same username and password you use now to check your e-mail. In your Message Center you can read the quarantined e-mail online, delete it, or deliver (forward) it to your Outlook Express or other e-mail program in-box.
After you receive notice of service activation, we encourage you to log in to your Message Center as soon as possible to review any possible legitimate messages and prevent the senders from being quarantined in the future. (Initially, you might see some legitimate email quarantined until the Postini service "learns" your preferences and approved senders). As time goes on you will be able to rely on Postini's periodic notifications of your Message Center activity.
Postini lets you "block" senders; meaning e-mail from them will always be filtered. Or you can "approve" senders; meaning their e-mail will always be delivered.

DISCLAIMER: Please be advised that Postini endeavors to catch and tag all spam, but cannot stop spam completely. Keep in mind, you may regard certain messages as spam that the Postini system does not. In addition, the Postini service endeavors to catch all e-mail-sourced viruses, but cannot guarantee detection and removal of unknown viruses. Bee.Net still recommends that you have anti-virus software installed on your computer for the purpose of detection, scanning and removal of known/unknown system viruses either pre-existing on your hard drive or ported to your hard drive from a non-e-mail source. Circumstances where viruses can get through Postini include, but are not limited too, new viruses where McAfee has not yet issued signatures, as well as all situations of encrypted e-mails, which by their nature cannot be scanned.
